Previously, we spoke about GOD'S UNFAILING WORD & SOVEREIGN CHOICE, but Today we are considering the topic ZEAL WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE
Paul's heart for his fellow Jews is evident in Romans 10. He acknowledges their deep sincerity, noting that they have a "zeal for God," but it is a zeal "not according to knowledge." . Sincerity and passion for God are not enough; they must be guided by a proper understanding of who God is and how He has chosen to save humanity.
Paul himself was a prime example of this before his conversion. He was zealous to the point of persecuting Christians, believing he was serving God. This chapter serves as a reminder that we must not rely on our own religious efforts but on God's revealed truth.
*The Righteousness of Works vs. The Righteousness of Faith*
The core issue for Israel was their attempt to "establish their own righteousness" instead of submitting to "the righteousness of God." This is the fundamental conflict between the Law and the Gospel. The Law is a standard we can never perfectly meet, and trying to do so is a futile effort that will always fall short.
In contrast, God's righteousness is a free gift received through faith. Christ is the "end of the law" for those who believe. This means that our standing with God is no longer based on our obedience to the Law, but on our faith in what Christ has already accomplished for us.
*The Simplicity of Salvation*
Paul reveals the beautiful simplicity of God's way of salvation, contrasting it with the difficult, unattainable path of legalistic works. He quotes Deuteronomy 30, explaining that righteousness is not a distant, unreachable goal. Instead, "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart."
This "word" is the gospel message itself. The path to salvation is not a long, arduous journey of self-improvement, but a simple act of confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart. It is a recognition of who Jesus is—the risen Lord—and an embrace of His work on the cross.
*The Responsibility of Preaching the Gospel*
Paul then shifts to the need for evangelism. He asks, "How shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?" This highlights the essential role of the Christian community in sharing the good news. While Israel had heard the gospel—as Paul proves by quoting Psalm 19:4, "Their sound has gone out to all the earth"—their rejection of it made them accountable.
This also serves as a call to us today. We have heard the good news. We are a part of the "sent" ones, called to share the simple message of salvation with those who have not yet submitted to God's righteousness.

*Prayer*
Heavenly Father, thank you for the certainty of salvation through faith in your Son, Jesus Christ.
Forgive us for the times we have relied on our own efforts and zeal instead of submitting to your righteousness.
Fill us with a deeper knowledge of your truth and a renewed zeal to share it with others.
We pray for those who have not yet heard the gospel, and we ask that you would reach out to them.
In Jesus name Amen.
