Devotional: Glimpses of Glory - knowing the Superiority of Jesus (Hebrews 1:4-14)

Yesterday, we marvelled at how Jesus is God's ultimate Word, the clearest revelation of who God is. Today, we're going to dive even deeper into His incredible supremacy, especially when we compare Him to powerful beings like angels. Get ready to be blessed !

Our Scripture for Today: Hebrews 1:4-14 - "having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say: 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You'? And again: 'I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son'? But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: 'Let all the angels of God worship Him.' And of the angels He says: 'Who makes His angels spirits And His ministers a flame of fire.' But to the Son He says: 'Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom.'" (Verses 5-8 are quoted here, but the entire passage up to v.14 is the focus).

DISCUSSION:

You know, yesterday we talked about how God spoke in so many different ways in the Old Testament – through a burning bush (Exodus 3), a still, small voice (1 Kings 19), a heavenly vision (Isaiah 6), even a family crisis (Hosea 1:2), or a basket of fruit (Amos 8:1). And we celebrated how Jesus is the ultimate, pure beam of God's revelation, the "heir of all things," the "brightness of God's glory." He created everything, upholds everything, purged our sins, and sat down in victory.

Today, the book of Hebrews keeps driving that point home, but he does it by showing us just how magnificent Jesus is compared to angels. Now, in biblical times, angels were highly revered – powerful, majestic, heavenly beings that delivered God's messages. Yet, Hebrews makes it clear: Jesus is "so much better than the angels" and has "a more excellent name."

What's the big difference? Well, angels are created beings. They're like God's very powerful, staffs – His messengers, His servants, "ministering spirits" as our passage says in Hebrews 1:7 and 14. They serve God; they don't rule. But Jesus? He's the Son! He's the King, the very One that angels themselves worship (Hebrews 1:6). Think about it: God never, ever called an angel "My Son" in that unique, eternal way He calls Jesus. And while angels stand ready to serve, Jesus has a throne that lasts "forever and ever," and He sat down at God's right hand – a position of completed work and ultimate authority.

This isn't just theory. It means that the One who stepped into our world to save us isn't just a powerful spiritual being; He is God Himself. His authority is absolute, His power knows no limits.

So, as we reflect on this, it brings up some important questions for us

 * How well do you recognize Jesus supremacy ? Is He just a historical figure to us, or do we truly know Him as the supreme, living Son of God?

 * Is your faith in him firm knowing that he is truly God

 * what fears, worries, problems and situations can you bring to him today

* Do You believe he has the ultimate Authority over death, poverty, sickness, disappointment etc.

PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for not leaving me in the dark.

Jesus, you have the ultimate Authority, Every Activity of darkness in my life is hereby terminated

My fears, problems, worries ( mention them), I bring them to you, deal with them

In Jesus name
