Devotional: THE GOLDEN LAW; 'The Principle of Love '

We bless God for another opportunity to learn at the His feet today. Yesterday, we learnt about the Christian's Obligation To The Government.

As we proceed in the word of God today, may we be blessed in Jesus' name. Amen.

Scripture for Today: Romans 13:8-10 NIV‬

[8] Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

[9] The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

[10] Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

 *DISCUSSION*

Debt is something to be avoided by every believer. It is a trap that catches the careless. It can bring much bondage and misery. The custom of going into debt for special occasions like marriages, etc, or to buy unnecessary things, is surely wrong for believers. The rule of life for believers should be contentment with what they have and faith that God will supply all they need (Phil 4:19).

However, Paul reminds us that, there is one debt all believers have and which they must make continued efforts to pay – *the duty of loving one another* . Love is a debt. It is only one debt we can never fully repay. The law of God and the interest of mankind make it so. Unlike money, this is not a burden but a calling.

Every act of love we show to others is a step in fulfilling God’s law. Love is a living, active principle of obedience to the whole law. Thanks to our Dear Master, who has summed up all our duty in one word, --LOVE, the beauty and harmony of the universe. Loving and being loved is all the pleasure, joy, and happiness, of an intelligent being. God is love (1 John 4:16), it is the love that make Him to give us His greatest treasure (Jesus) as sacrifice for our sin.

The last five of the ten commandments are all summed up in this royal law, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. God demand that we should extend the same love He has for us to others; with the same sincerity that we love ourselves, though not in the same measure and degree.

   Who Is Your Neighbor?

Your neighbor is your fellow human being. He that loves his neighbour as himself will be desirous of the welfare of his neighbour's body, goods, properties and good name, as of his own. The progress of others will be his priority as he progress.

When we love, we will not steal, lie, hate, or harm. Instead, we seek the good of others, just as Christ loved us and laid down His life for us. True Christian living is not measured merely by religious activity but by how well we love those around us.

Ask yourself; Am I living with love toward others, even those hard to love?

Today, let your words and actions reflect Christ’s love and show love in a simple way—through a kind word, forgiveness, or generosity.

Remember that *_Love is not optional for believers—it is the very heart of God’s command._*

 *PRAYER*

*Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that love is the fulfillment of Your law.

*Jesus, help me to live each day owing nothing but the debt of love.

*May my life reflect Your love to others as I await the coming of my Lord Jesus Christ. In His name, Amen.
