Devotional : FREE FROM THE LAW,BOUND TO CHRIST (Romans 7:6)
In the previous chapter, we spoke about how we now have the power to rule over sin and being slaves to righteousness. In Romans 7, we will be discussing our freedom from the law and bond with our Lord Jesus Christ.
*Romans 7:6 NKJV*
*[6] But now we have been delivered from the law, having* *died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.*
The bible makes us to understand that as long as we are still alive, we'll be under the law. Examine the instance of the woman Apostle Paul gave in the bible (Romans 7:1-3) how that this woman is bound to her husband by the law but if her husband dies, she's free from the law and can get married to someone else without being called an adulteress.
Therefore, as Christ died, we died to sin and the law has no power over us, hence, we married christ. The law is no longer an option for our salvation, we are no longer seeking righteousness through the law but Christ. We are now married to Jesus and we bear forth fruit to God.
✓ The law does not justify us as it does not make us right with God.
✓ The law does not cleanse nor sanctify us
✓ It does not take us deeper with God
✓ The law does not make us holy before God.
We were given freedom so we can stop serving God but the bibles tells us that so we can serve him in newness of the spirit and not not in the oldness of the letter.
John 4:24 says God is a spirit and those who worship him must worship him in truth.
Prayer,
Lord fill me with the newness of your spirit so I serve you better
Help me not to serve you by law nor activities but by your spirit
Help me not to lose the bond that I share with you
In Jesus name
Amen
