Devotional : AWAKE, ARISE, AND SHINE FOR CHRIST
_We bless God for a fresh new day. Yesterday, we learned about the THE GOLDEN RULE which is “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
As we proceed in the word of God today, may we be blessed in Jesus' name. Amen.
Scripture for Today: Romans 13:11-14 NIV
And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh._
DISCUSSION
Paul reminds us here that the time is short and we must live with urgency. Each day brings us closer to the return of Christ, and this awareness should stir us out of spiritual laziness. Just as a soldier would not sleep through battle, so we must not be spiritually asleep while the world around us grows darker.
It is high time for every christian to awake from the spiritual slumber; out of the sleep of sin; spiritual laziness, indifference, compromise, out of the sleep of carnal security, sloth and negligence, out of the sleep of spiritual death.
We have need to be often excited and stirred up to awake. The word of command to all Christ's disciples is, Watch "Awake--be concerned about your souls and your eternal interest take heed of sin, be ready to, and serious in, that which is good, and live in a constant expectation of the coming of our Lord. Just like Elisha await the departure of his master (Elijah), the arrival of our Master (Jesus) should not take us by surprise like a thief.
Christians are children of light and therefore must lay aside darkness and it's works. Believer must be able to identify habits or desires that belong to the night and surrender them to God. Deeds of darkness include; drunkenness, immorality, jealousy, strife, anger, rage, malice, slander etc.bDon’t get comfortable with sin or complacency; be alert in prayer, worship, and service. The night of sin is ending; the day of Christ is dawning. Live as children of light with integrity and purity.
This call is not just to avoid sin, but to actively put on Christ. Just like we put on clothes daily, we are invited to intentionally cover ourselves with the character, love, and purity of Jesus.
Put on Christ Daily – Through His Word, prayer, and obedience, let His nature shape your actions, thoughts, and relationships. Every day brings us closer to eternity.
As a new covenant believer we need to awake, arise and shine for the Master who has called us into His Marvelous light. Now is the time to live faithfully, shine brightly, and walk with Jesus.
