DEVOTIONAL : THE TEMPLE OF THE LIVING GOD
You Are the Temple of the Living God
Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:11–18
2 Corinthians 6:11–13 (NKJV)
"O Corinthians! We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open.
You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.
Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open."
2 Corinthians 6:14–18
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
‘I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’
Therefore, ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.’
‘I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
Devotional Message:
Glory be to the Lord God of hosts for the last day of this week. We thank Him for His grace, mercy, favour, and blessings. May His name be praised forever!
Yesterday, we reflected on Paul’s hardships and his exhortation to all believers. He reminded us that the journey to heaven often feels like walking through fire, while the path to hell can appear smooth and easy. As believers, we should expect trials, but we must also live righteously among unbelievers. Our actions carry great power—they can either draw people to Christ or push them away. Therefore, we must be led by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.
Today, we turn our focus to a vital truth: We are the temple of the Living God.
A Heartfelt Appeal
Paul begins this passage with a heartfelt plea, urging the Corinthians to open their hearts. This shows the weight of the subject he's addressing. Many people might wonder: How can a God so great dwell in someone so small? Yet Scripture clearly says, “You are the temple of the Living God.” It's not about the size or physical strength of your body—it’s about who lives in you.
I pray that as we dive into this teaching, the Lord Himself will open the eyes of our understanding.
No Partnership Between Light and Darkness
Paul makes it clear that righteousness has no fellowship with lawlessness, and light has no communion with darkness. Christ cannot be in harmony with Belial (a symbol of evil), and a believer cannot be a true partner with an unbeliever.
The more we align ourselves with the world, the more distant we become from God. As followers of Christ, we are called to separate ourselves—not out of pride, but out of reverence for God. We should associate with unbelievers only when our purpose is to minister to them in love, not to join them in their ways.
We must be intentional about avoiding people, places, and situations that draw us away from God. As Scripture says:
James 4:4
"Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."
Be Separate—You Are Set Apart
There can be no agreement between the temple of God and idols. God is a jealous God who will not share His glory with another. When we associate with sin or the unclean things of this world, we risk defilement and separation from Him.
God's command is clear:
“Come out from among them and be separate. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”
We must flee from spiritual contamination just as we would avoid physical diseases like leprosy or the plague. You cannot touch pitch without being stained, and you cannot walk with the ungodly without being influenced—unless you are grounded and led by the Spirit.
Evaluate Your Friendships
Look at your friends—are they godly friends?
It is a serious dishonour to God when we, who have been called His sons and daughters, degrade ourselves by joining hands with those who oppose Him.
2 Corinthians 6:18
“I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”
Is there any greater honour than being a child of the Almighty God? How unwise and ungrateful it is to throw that away by compromising with the world.
Don’t Be Deceived by Popular Lies
The world may tell you that “It doesn’t matter” or that “God looks at the heart, not the body.” But the same God who sees your heart also demands holiness in every part of your life.
Leviticus 11:44
"For I am the LORD your God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy."
God wants to live in you and work through you—but He will not dwell in a defiled temple. He works through those who are holy and consecrated.
Prayer:
Lord, we bless You for this moment and for the bread of life You have sent us this morning. You are highly exalted.
-
Have mercy on all our wrongdoings and ungodly associations.
-
For anyone trapped in the wrong company, we ask that You break that yoke and bring them back to Yourself.
-
Give us the grace to consecrate ourselves so that we can be useful in Your service.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Amen in Jesus name
