Devotional : Understanding the Enemy’s Strategy
Good morning π, How was our night π
Our Scripture for today: 2 Corinthians 2:8-11
> "Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him. For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things. Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices."

Satan Devices
Paul knew the importance of forgiveness, not just for the person who had sinned, but also for the health of the church. He understood that when we hold onto unforgiveness, we're giving Satan a foothold. Satan is a master strategist, and he loves to exploit our mistakes—both as individuals and as a community.
The Greek word for "take advantage" in this passage, pleonekteo, means to cheat someone out of what rightfully belongs to them. Satan wants to steal the things God has given us through Jesus: our peace, joy, fellowship, and forgiveness. When we refuse to forgive someone who has repented, we become partners in his plan.
Have you ever noticed how the enemy works? His strategy isn't just one-dimensional.
To the person who sinned, he first uses temptation and lust. Once they’ve fallen, he switches tactics to hopelessness and despair.
To the church, he starts with tolerating sin, but then flips to an extreme and uses undue severity and unforgiveness against the repentant.
Satan’s goal is to disrupt our lives and our relationships with God and with others. By holding onto anger and unforgiveness, we play right into his hands. Paul tells us we don't have to be ignorant of these "devices." The Holy Spirit can make us aware of the enemy’s schemes.
The Fragrance of Christ's Triumph
Paul also shares a beautiful image of God's victory. He sees God leading His people in a triumphant procession, and we are part of it! As we follow Jesus, we become the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
This "fragrance" is a powerful metaphor with two outcomes:
To those who are being saved, it’s a fragrance of life, leading to salvation.
To those who are perishing, it’s a fragrance of death, because they reject the truth.
This is a weighty responsibility. Paul asks, "Who is sufficient for these things?" He knows that in our own strength, none of us are. But with Christ, we are more than conquerors. Our job isn't to water down the message to make it more palatable; it's to faithfully carry the pure Gospel.
God has opened a door for you to share His love and forgiveness. Don't let anything—even the stress and struggles of life—get in the way of walking through that door. We don't have to do it alone. Like Paul, we can lean on fellow believers for support.
Remember, God has already secured the victory. As His followers, we are part of His triumphant parade, and the fragrance of Christ's love is a powerful force that changes lives.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your complete forgiveness.
Help me to forgive others just as you have forgiven me. I don’t want to give Satan any advantage in my life or in my church.
Make me aware of his devices, and give me the strength to stand against them.
Help me to be a faithful carrier of your gospel. Let me be a fragrance of Christ to everyone I meet, sharing your love and truth without compromise.
Give me the heart to serve, and to do it in unity with other believers.
In Jesus name

Amen
