Devotional : A Refreshed Spirit & Renewed Confidence
We thank God for the gift of a new day, Halleluyah AMEN
Our topic for today is an extension of yesterday's discussion (GODLY SORROW & REPENTANCE) Titled "A REFRESHED SPIRIT & RENEWED CONFIDENCE"
Our Scripture for today : 2 Corinthians 7:13-16:
Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true. And his affections are greater for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him. Therefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything.
This passage shows the beautiful result of genuine repentance. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians had been a difficult one, but the Corinthians' response—their genuine repentance—brought comfort and immense joy to Paul and his partner, Titus.
Titus was the partner of Paul who delivered paul's letter to the Corinthians
The Fruits of True Repentance
A Refreshed Spirit: Titus had been deeply concerned about the Corinthians' issues. But seeing their change of heart and obedience "refreshed his spirit," bringing him relief and joy. Their repentance wasn't just a private matter; it had a powerful impact on those around them.
Boasting Found True: Paul had hopefully boasted to Titus about the Corinthians, believing they would respond positively to his harsh letter. When Titus returned with a good report, Paul's boasting was found to be true. This shows that true repentance vindicates not only the person who repents but also those who trusted and believed in them.
Renewed Affections: The passage reveals that Titus's affection for the Corinthians had actually grown stronger. What could have led to bitterness or a "chip on his shoulder" became a source of deeper love as he witnessed their humility and obedience. Repentance doesn't just fix a problem; it can deepen relationships and build greater affection.
Confidence in Everything: At the end of a difficult chapter in their relationship, Paul can now say, "I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything." This wasn't sarcasm; it was a heartfelt expression of trust. The repentance of the Corinthians restored Paul's confidence in them and their shared ministry.
This passage teaches us that genuine repentance is transformative. It doesn't just make things "right"; it creates something new. It brings comfort, vindicates our trust, deepens our relationships, and restores confidence.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace of repentance.
Thank You that when we turn from our sin, You not only forgive us but also use our change of heart to bring comfort and joy to others.
Help me to be a person who is quick to repent and to humble myself, so that my life may be a source of refreshment and confidence to those around me.
Restore my relationships and help me to walk in a way that honors You. In Jesus's name, Amen.
