Devotional: The Glory of the New Covenant (1)
Blessed morning to you π,
Today our focus is on the theme of the tenure "THE GLORY OF THE NEW COVENANT" vol 1
Our Scripture for today : 2 Corinthians 3:4-6
2 Corinthians 3:4-6 NKJV
[4] And we have such trust through Christ toward God. [5] Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, [6] who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Discussion
Apostle Paul Explains the source of our strength and the nature of our calling as Christians. He begins by acknowledging that any confidence he has comes not from himself, but from Christ. This is a foundational truth: our ability to serve God and be a witness for Him is a gift, not a personal achievement.
Paul then introduces a profound contrast between the "old covenant" and the "new covenant." The old covenant, represented by the "letter" of the law, was given on stone tablets. While it was holy and good, it served to reveal our sin and pronounce judgment. It showed us what we should do but gave us no power to do it. In this sense, "the letter kills" because it exposes our inability to meet God's perfect standard, leading to condemnation and spiritual death.
The new covenant, however, is a ministry of the "Spirit." It is centered on Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. Through faith in Him, we receive the Holy Spirit, who writes God's law not on stone but on our hearts. The Spirit gives us new life, empowers us to obey God, and transforms us from the inside out. This new covenant is a ministry of life, not of death; of grace, not of law; of internal transformation, not external rules.
As ministers of this new covenant, our sufficiency comes from God alone. We don't rely on our own talents or righteousness, but on the power of the Holy Spirit living within us. Our task is not to condemn, but to share the life-giving message of the Gospel. We are called to be vessels through which the Spirit works, bringing others from the bondage of the law to the freedom and life found in Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the establishment of the new covenant.
Thank You for Jesus, who fulfilled the law, and for the Holy Spirit, who now lives within us.
Forgive us for the times we have relied on our own strength and sufficiency.
Fill us afresh with Your Spirit, so that we may be true ministers of this life-giving covenant.
In Jesus name. Amen.
