PRIESTHOOD (Hebrews 5:1-14)
Yesterday was when we learnt or got reminded of how we can enter into God's rest by faith and to make use of the words of God to our advantage. Praise God!
Today, we will dive into what Hebrews Chapter 5 has for us. May we be able to patiently hear what He'll say to us in Jesus' name.
Hebrews 5:1-4 KJV
[1] For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: [2] who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. [3] And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. [4] And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron...
The first few verses explains the work or responsibilities of a priest, the primary job of the high priest was to officiate, either directly or indirectly through lower- ranking priests, making sacrifices to the Lord and having compassion on those he is leading and not to Lord over them. It explains that the priest should also know that he has been appointed by God and he didn't appoint himself.
In the following verses, it was told that the agony of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, Matthew 26:36-39, Luke 22:44) proved He struggled with difficulty of obedience yet He obeyed perfectly. These prayers were most ardent requests uttered with deep sighs, hands lifted up and manifold moans, in a most submissive manner.
Nevertheless, His prayer was heard because His prayer was not to escape His Father’s will, but to accept it - and that prayer was definitely heard.
Verses 12-14 also emphasized that we should stop being a babe spiritually, we should grow into spiritual maturity and leave the characters of baby Christians as we would be able to discern what is good and what is not good for us.
Reflection:
Do you think it is God who appointed you? if He is, let Him receive the glory.
Are you still a baby Christian or a matured one?
Prayers;
Lord, help me to see you as my head and that you are the one who appointed me.
I refuse to be a baby Christian, I refuse to be a nominal Christian, help me Lord.
In Jesus name 🙏
